CITU Strike affects work in Rourkela Steel Plant in Orissa

rourkela

Bhubaneswar: The two-day all India strike launched by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has hit steel production at the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP).

The CITU has been demanding wage revision as the National Joint Committee on Steel (NJCS) failed to sort out this issue despite several rounds of meetings at New Delhi.

The official spokesperson of the RSP admitted that normal work and production were affected and the attendance was about 52 per cent today. No disciplinary action against any worker had been initiated so far.

The strike, which began yesterday has hit most of the important departments like SMS-II, blast furnaces, silicon steel mill, cold rolling mill etc.

The workers affiliated to the CITU organised demonstrations at different entry points to the plant obstructing anyone’s movement through them. However, no untoward incident has been reported, official sources said.

Maoist threat letter to Orissa Finance minister

prafulla
Bhubaneswar: A letter purported to have been sent by Maoists has threatened Orissa’s Finance Minister Prafulla Ghadai, police said today.

“The letter threatened to eliminate the finance minister and trigger a blast at IDCO Tower of the Industries department,” a police officer said here.
According to IDCO authorities, the letter was hand delivered on Tuesday and bore the signature of a Maoist leader.
“We have already handed over the letter to police,” a senior IDCO official told reporters.
The letter alleged that the state-owned Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation provided land to relatives of Ghadai at “cheap rates” in Jajpur district.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Himansu Lal said the police were investigating the sources of the letter.
