Indian Govt. to launch special polio drive

The Indian Government will soon introduce special oral polio vaccine to deal with type 1 and type 3 viruses in the wake of recent spurt in polio cases. The new vaccine will be more effective against both viruses.

polioThe Union Health Minister, Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad said this while launching a special polio drive on the occasion of Children’s Day at a MCD school in New Delhi today.He said that the Government is committed to wipe out polio from the country for which concerted efforts are needed at all levels. Mr Azad also said that there should be mechanism for the registry of immunized children which can be verified centrally. The Special Polio Drive is being conducted in 10 states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Maharashtra and others. About five lakh children were administered anti-polio drops today.

Newdelhi(IMC):Union Power Minister, Mr. Sushil Kumar Shinde has expressed serious concern over achieving the set targets of the 11th plan. Addressing a conference of State Power Ministers in New Delhi on Sunday, he urged all state governments to ensure speedy implementation of flagship programmes like the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana and availability of electricity to all by 2012.

india_gridUnder an ambitious plan for expanding power generation in the country four Ultra Mega Power Projects in Madhya Pradesh, Gujrat, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand have been awarded to successful developer.

Mr Shinde said while 3 more such projects are coming up soon. About seven more power projects are in pipeline.

The Minster said that the government expects creating close to 62 thousand Mega watts of power generation capacity by the end of 11th plan against the target of over 75 thousand mega watts.

Over 18 thousand Mega Watts capacity has been created during the 11th plan so far and the figures are expected to go beyond 22 thousand mega watts by March next year.

Mr Shinde said thermal power will remain an important component for power generation and India is still far behind the Western levels of pollution. Earlier, addressing the gathering, Minister of State for Power Mr Bharatsinh Solanki stressed upon reducing distribution losses to make power sector viable.

Indian national congress demand action against accused police officer

Senior state level stalwarts of congress party  on Saturday paid a visit to Ratanpur village  under Mahakalapada  police station and later in a press meet  the senior congress leaders   demanded before the state government to arrest the policemen who were involved in killing  a 65 year old man allegedly by assaulting him and later trampling him to death while they were going to execute a warrant  against the deceased’s son in a 25 years old  case   at  Ratanpur village  under district on Wednesday night . The senior congress leaders and also demanded before the state government to pay a compensation amount of Rs 5 lakh to  the deceased’s kin  .

kpThe Pradesh Congress Committee’s State  president K.P. Singhdeo , Opposition leader in the state Assembly Bhupinder Singh, former IG of Police Batakrushna Tripathy  and other senior leaders on Saturday paid a visit  to the victim’s house at Ratanpur village in order to meet the bereaved family members of the 65 years old deceased Bhaskar Das .

Police raided the house to arrest Bharat Das , the son of the deceased Bhaskar Das ,who was accused of under Cattle Trespass Act of letting his buffaloes graze on the field of coconut saplings planted by the forest officials twenty five years back. Bhaskar Das was allegedly killed  as a portion of the door allegedly fell on the oldman while he was taking rest in the house following  the khaki clad personnel led by in charge of Mahakalapada police station Madan Mohan Pradhan entered forcibly into the house in search of the deceased’s son Bharat Das by trampling the deceased with boots ,, said Bhupinder Singh ,a senior congress leader and opposition party leader in the state assembly.

The Congress leaders also demanded before the state government to place  the policemen under suspension who were involved in  the brutal attack .Congress Party will raise this issue in the coming assembly. The State government should immediately hand over the investigation of this case to Crime Branch , said PCC president K.P. Singh Deo ..

All the policemen should be booked under sections- 301 (Culpable homicide by causing death of person other than person whose death was intended ) and 302( Punishment for murder ) of Indian Penal Code as they killed an innocent man, added leaders of Congress in the press meet at Congress Bhawan in Kendrapara

Unmanned aerial vehicles to be used in anti-Naxal operations in Orissa

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) will be used for the first time to detect Naxal hideouts in dense forests and hilly terrains and monitor the movement of ultras to help ground forces carry out precision attacks.

naxal-securityThe UAVs, with in-built cameras, well-equipped data links and video links, will gather and record information, which will be shared among the security forces engaged in anti-Naxal operations, especially in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Orissa, Maharashtra and West Bengal.

The trials of the UAVs, developed by the Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), have recently been conducted in Hissar and Delhi while more trials will be conducted in jungles of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand soon.

“We are satisfied with the UAV trials in Hissar and Delhi. If we are satisfied with next stage of trials, we will take the help of UAVs in our operations against Naxals,” a home ministry official said.

Security experts also want to see which of the UAV variants will be useful in forests and hills as most of the Maoist bases are located there only.

The UAVs also provide flexible surveillance and reconnaissance capability with external payload, including weapons capability.

“Since Maoists are keep changing their movements, deployment of UAVs will certainly be an advantage for security forces,” the official said.
